Established October 2004, based on the Barwon River near Balyang Sanctuary

Sister club to one of the longest formed clubs in Hawaii, Kai 'Opua Canoe Club. Our sisterhood was formed in order to embrace the spirit and culture of Hawaiian outrigger canoe racing , to educate our club members and the people of the community on the value of spiritual and cultural practices within traditional outrigger canoe paddling.

These practices include:

To nurture each other
To nurture our canoes and equipment
To nurture all things living on this planet

To show compassion for our teammates and our club members. To develop an understanding that people come into this wonderful sport for different reasons...and to honour those differences.

Through outrigger canoeing, lifelong friendships are built and there is a special connection formed between outrigger canoe paddlers and this amazing planet. something that can't always be explained and isn't necessarily discovered - but for those that are 'open', it is there to be discovered.

Our aim within our club is to offer outrigger canoe paddling to a broad range of members, from the social members that want to participate and meet new people , to the competitive members that want to train and race at a competitive level. Most importantly, for everyone to have FUN! That is what our club is about, friendships, fun, sport and a release from the stresses that everyday life brings.

We train regularly on the river on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm. Sundays at 10 am and as we get closer to race dates, a Saturday session is added as well. If you would like to learn more about our club or come down and have a paddle, contact Gena on 0424 397 498 or Benny on 0404 800 630.

The race schedule in Victoria is set to begin in November and will continue until May - more details to be posted as the dates for racing are set.

Victorian clubs include: Kai 'Opua, Geelong, Melbourne, Patterson Lakes and Footscray... each club will host a regatta for the season and club members have the opportunity to compete at these local races as well as aim to go interstate to NSW or Qld, or even internationally to Hawaii or Tahiti.
